06/08/2012 - Toros Battle....but drop 2 in Pool Play

LeRoy, IL -- The short handed Twin City Toros battled hard at the Diamond in the Rough Tournament today as they came up on the short end of a 5-3 game against the Indy Revolution and then dropped the nightcap 17-0 to the Northern Illinois Reds from Aurora.

Game #1 vs. Revolution
The Toros starting pitcher Nathan Jones kept the Revolution from revolting until the Toro bats could get rolling by holding then to 3 runs through the first 5 innings.  The revolution went to a junk baller in the top of the sixth and the moved back fired.  Kendall Warner greeted Justin Kirkpatrick with an line drive single to center.  After a wild pitch moved Warner to 2B, Nathan Jones drew a wone out walk,

Parker Schaab on the very next pitch takes one for the team to load to bases for Adam HoernerHoerner then took a 0-1 pitch sharply to LF scoring Warner.  After left fielder John Skene misplayed the ball, courtesy runner Noah Johnson scored to pull the Toros within 1 run. 

Center Fielder Wesley Anderson then took a 1-1 pitch up the middle for an RBI single scoring Parker Schaab to tie the score at 3-3 chasing Kirkpatrick.  Revolution pitcher Haden Kisser got the last two outs to send the scored tied into the bottom of 6.

The Revolution plated two in the bottom of six to take a 5-3 lead.  The Toros made some noise in the top of the 7th after Kisser hit Kendall Warner with an 0-2 pitch and then Noah Johnson singled to put runners at 1B and 2B with one out.  Warner was then forced out at third before a walk to Parker Schaab loaded the bases for Adam Hoerner.  Kisser retired Hoerner to end the game.

Game #2 vs. Northern Illinois Reds
In the 17-0 loss the good news was Toro pitchers only allowed 6 hits and made only 1 error.  The bad news, Toro pitchers issued 13 walks and hit two batters.

The Toros return to pool play action on Saturday at 5:30 pm in LeRoy as they play the Decatur Commodores.
