A 20-30 mph wind blowing in from left field played havoc with the pitchers as both teams combined for 27 walks in the 3:04 marathon. 354 pitches later the Toros earned their second victory in a row pounding out 14 hits mixed in with 17 walks issued by 5 BNBA 16U Blue pitchers.
The Toros never trailed and opened the scoring in the first as two out RBI single by Adam Hoerner scored Nick Mosele.
Two runs were plated in the second inning as eventual pitching winner Sam Arvik scored on a wild pitch after reaching base on the first of his three hits on the evening. Parker Schaab scored the Toros other run in the second on a rare timing play where the BNBA Blue 1B stepped on the bag after fielding an Evan Jefferson ground ball and then threw to 2B for the third out. Schaab was hustling towards the plate and beat the tag on Nathan Jones sliding into 2B.
Toros starting pitcher Brian Zimmerman retired the first six batters he faced. Zimmerman struck out the side in the first and then forced three ground balls, two unassisted putouts by Adam Hoerner at 1B in the second.
The top of the third saw the Toros blow the game wide open for 1/2 of an inning. A seven run outburst all after one out was fueled by five BNBA Blue walks. Brian Zimmerman doubled in Bryce Hendren. Noah Johnson two RBI single scored Zimmerman and Adam Hoerner. Sam Arvik and Evan Jefferson also had RBI singles in the frame as the Toros expanded the lead to 10-0.
The BNBA Blue scored eight runs in the bottom of the 3rd. All six walks issued in the inning scored as the Blue only managed one hit to cut the score to 10-8.
Both teams wents quietly in the 4th before the Toros scored again in the 5th. The Toros loaded the bases with two outs. A two out RBI walk to Nick Mosele scored Sam Arvik. Bryce Hendren followed with an RBI single of his own scoring Paker Schaab to make the score 12-8. Kendall Warner then scalded a bases clearing double to left center on a 3-2 pitch to increase the Toro lead to 7 at 15-8.
The BNBA scored 2 in the bottom of the 5th but the Toros added two in the 6th and one on the 7th to make the final score 18-10.
The Toros pitchers allowed just 3 BNBA Blue hits. Sam Arvik pitched 4 innings of 1 hit relief to earn the win for the Toros. McLean Conklin pitched a scoreless 7th to help the Toros move their record to 3-5 on the season.
The Toros return to action Tuesday night vs. Metamora in a 5:30 DH at the McLean County Pony Complex.
