Bloomington (McLean County Pony Complex) -- Kendall Warner took the mound in the second game tonight with the desire to help his Toro teammates even their season record. After visiting Metamora had runners at 2nd and 3rd with one out in the top of the first you had to wonder if the Toros would be playing from behind once again. Warner struck out the next two batters to end the inning. The strikeouts started a run where Warner and the Toros defense retired 19 of 20 batters en route to a 2-1 victory.
Warner earned the win pitching 7 innings allowing 3 hits and striking out 10 to help the Toros even their season record at 5-5.
The game was scoreless until the bottom of the sixth. Catcher Wesley Anderson earned a one out walk. Nick Mosele followed with a single advancing courtesy runner Duncan Welsh to 2B. After a deep drive to center by McLean Conklin was hauled in by the Metamora center fielder, Noah Johnson drove in the eventual game winners with a hard single to center on an 0-2 pitch. Welsh scored and so did Nick Mosele when the Metamora center fielder misplayed the ball to give the Toros a 2-0 lead.
Warner headed the hill one more time in the seventh. After retiring the leadoff batter on a grounder to Evan Jefferson, Warner walked the next batter. A single by Metamora put runners at 1st and 2nd with one out. Another groundout to Jefferson moved the runners into scoring position. A passed ball scored a Metamora runner from 3rd to make the score 2-1.
The next two batters walked taking some pretty good pitches to load the bases. On a 1-0 pitch, Warner got the Metamora lead-off batter to fly out to center to end the game and earn the sweep.
