06/24/2012 - Mosele and Johnson combine on 2 hitter

Bloomington (McLean Co Pony Complex) -- The Twin City Toros returned to action Sunday afternoon against the Clinton Legion.  Pitching was the highlight in Game #1 of the doubleheader as starter Nick Mosele and reliever Noah Johnson allowed one hit each in the Toros 3-0 victory.

Mosele (1-1) struck out five in three innings of work and was awarded the win.  Johnson fanned six and walked none in 4 innings of work to earn his first save of the summer.  Johnson retired 12 of the 13 batters he faced.

The Clinton Legion tried to take the lead in the 2nd inning when they loaded the bases on two walks and a hit batter with one out.  Mosele then struck out the next two batters swinging to end the threat.

Clinton loaded the bases in the 3rd inning with one out.  Once again Toro starter Nick Mosele fanned the next two batters swinging and the game remained scoreless.

The Toros got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the 3rd.  Parker Schaab was plunked on a 2-0 pitch to start the inning.  After a fly out, Nick Mosele drew a 4 pitch walk.  A Toro fly out was followed by Kendall Warner reaching base on an error by the Clinton 3B to load the bases.  Another Clinton error on an Adam Hoerner grounder to second plated the unearned run for the Toros.

The Toros added two insurance runs in the bottom of the 4th.   Bryce Hendren reached base on a
dropped 3rd strike with one out.  Nathan Jones then singled to right center.  After a Toro strikeout, Noah Larson drew a two out walk to laod the bases.  Nick Mosele then laced a 2-0 pitch to left scoring Hendren and Jones to make the score 3-1.

Noah Johnson then shut the door to earn the save.   The Toros committed only one error and that was on the first play of the game.  Clinton helped the Toros cause making 5 errors.

The Toros improved their record to 7-6 on the season.
